Go Macro Go! A Protein Bar Worth Cheering For

Inside The Oven: The protein bar love of my life. Week Links: More on macrobiotic diet.
Have you seen the latest New Balance commercials detailing runners’ relationships with running? If not, feel free to take a look. There’s a guy in various scenarios-at the park or in the bathtub and the voice over makes comments like:
You broke up with running last week…
Now you see running everywhere, looking really, really good…
Running has a very hot friend named Victory…
When trying to express my previous relationships with protein bars, I find myself identifying with the love/hate relationship portrayed by New Balance. Love the flavor/hate the protein content. Hate the flavor/love the protein content. Love it when I feel good from something so nutritious/hate having to force myself to eat it because I know I need more nutrition. But now that I’ve been in this relationship with a Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Go Macro Bar for several months, there’s been nothing but love. Every date is just as exhilarating as the first. And why shouldn’t it be?
A vegan bar sweetened with brown rice syrup versus sugar, organic ingredients, and macrobiotic. No hydrogenated oils or preservatives. Oh, and did I mention 16 grams of vegan brown rice protein? You can easily see how my taste buds don’t want to stray.
Co-Founder of Go Macro Amelia Kirchoff switched to a macrobiotic diet after being diagnosed with breast cancer. After declaring victory over cancer, she was convinced her diet helped her cross the finish line and began creating macrobiotic sweets with ingredients grown on her own organic farm. When I bit into my favorite, the experience reminded me of eating peanut butter balls as a child. You remember peanut butter balls don’t you? Peanut butter mixed with syrup, powdered milk (the days of childhood were before the days I gave up dairy), sometimes rolled in chocolate chips? The texture of the protein bar is very soft, moist, and chewy. I could probably break a piece off and roll it into a ball, if I wanted to. And talk about energy. There’s nothing worse than having to eat an hour later because the high protein “snack” you ate before has disappeared into the black hole of metabolism land. With Macro Bars I feel full and they easily have substituted for meals when we’ve been on dates on the bike trail or at home when, ahem, we (myself and significant protein bar other) don’t feel like cooking.

Go Macro has an assortment of protein bars, including Granola Delight, Sesame Berry, and Carob Almond. They also have a gluten-free line featuring Cashew Butter, Peanut Protein, and Tahini Date. There are also Macro Treats-cookie goodies of Coconut and Chocolate, Almond Perfection, Carob Fudge, Cherry Serendipity, Peanut Butter and Chocolate, and a Breakfast Cookie (sounds like an oxymoron, but it’s oats and blueberries, and that doesn’t seem too off from breakfast oatmeal, does it?)
We’re ordering meals by the number these days, and you can do the same with Go Macro’s Macro Treat of the Month Club. It gives you shipping discounts and bonus bars/bonus cookies when you become a member and order regularly. Option 4, for example, gives you 12 cookies and 12 bars every month without having to re-order, discount shipping, plus 4 bonus bars.
Although I’ve been a peanut butter chocolate chip lover, that doesn’t mean I won’t try another variety. I’m thinking another peanut variety, Peanut Protein, might be on my calendar in the future. It seems fitting. After all, I tend to go for certain “types.”
